The New Series Starting Soon!

==============================================================

Thunder boomed and lightning jolted the building. It was one of those early morning unexpected storms, known to folks living in Jo'burg. But someone jumped right up out of his sleep by this sudden storm, and sat thinking it was a dream.

"What the ..." John Van Rijn sat up in his bed, still stuck in his sleeping mode, not quite awake. He grabbed for his pistol and stared into the darkness. His curtains were drawn closed and the bedroom was clothed in blackness, nothing could be seen.

"Damn this storm season again. One can't sleep at all." John put down his pistol and got up, angry because he would not fall asleep again. He looked at the bed side clock and it was flickering 3h15am. He knew it was a storm as the thunder clapped once more and lightning lit up his curtains that were closed. Another damn day with little sleep, and hopefully another case to solve. John was a private investigator now, running his own PI firm with the help of Olga Doorn, his secretary and pa. He needed the cash and money was drying up in his bank account. He decided to leave the police force where he had been a good detective to run his own PI establishment.

"Damn this weather," he muttered under his breath again. He stumbled blindly to the light switch across the room. When the globe offered light and lit up the room he went to the bathroom. His bladder was calling for help; the after effects of a late afternoon and early night of boozing - one of his bad habits. Ten minutes later, having splashed his face with cold water, waking up suddenly with the shock treatment thereof, he walked over to the kitchen and powered up the kettle. It was time for some strong coffee, or maybe another cold beer to sort out his inner self. He decided on coffee. It was too early for another alcoholic beverage.

=================================================================

That's it for now folks! This is the beginning of my new series I'm starting to pen/ink this weekend. The series will be related to John Van Rijn the Private Eye, and focused around South Africa, and taking him on trips across the world at times. Keep a look out for the first book [eBook though] to be published in the future. I still have to figure out the rest of the story line and design the first cover. It's time to enter a new genre in my writing future - crime and adventure...

Does that sound like fun or not? Time will tell...

Cheers for now,
Nelson...

A Review for Crime's Last Stand by Tom Johnson

What do I think of this pulp fiction story and book? Who doesn't love heroes and dark knights and avengers who roam our cities and seek to save the world from evil and those who just want to cause havoc and wreak destruction wherever they go.

This book where the Masked Avenger is "born" because Benson Roberts wants to live a life full of adventure, he becomes the hero who helps folks wherever the need arises. Benson is the Mask Avenger who seeks revenge for those who are killed or hurt by murderers, crime bosses and their side-kicks.

A well written story that keeps you captivated from the first page until the end of the last chapter. It is a great book to read, filled with intrigue and mysteries, but light to follow and well described in every aspect of the various scenes throughout the book. Pulp fiction is a wonderful genre of books and keeps you glued to the pages from beginning to end. I recommend you read all of Tom's books as his style of writing is easy to follow and always exciting, never boring or blank. I give it a 5 star rating, for how pulp fiction should be written.

Be Creative

Just make up a quick story and bring it to life in 5 minutes. It's that simple and if you wish to write a book, there is a beginning, a middle, and an end to it... Here is a short piece I made up and wrote within 3 minutes...

The Big Spender ==
...
She walked into the mall for one thing only. A pair of comfortable shoes for the upcoming wedding. Lorna was going to be the bride's maid and needed to look here best for her friend Cathy. After an hour she couldn't make up her mind.
...
She decided to call Cathy and get her opinion. Lorna sat down at a small coffee bar and ordered a coffee, something she loved drinking at least four times a day.
...
The phone rang and Cathy picked up. "Hi my best friend ever! How are you? I'm having difficulty with a decision and new your input please."
...
"Hi Lorna, it's great hearing from you. You in the mall again? Don't go crazy and overspend as you usually do. What do you want my help for? You are known to get what you want, but don't fear when Cathy is near." Cathy started laughing.
...
"I can't make up my mind which shoes to take. I have looked at a few and all of them are beautiful." Lorna continued explaining to her friend what she had found. After twenty minutes she greeted Cathy, drank her coffee which had been served ten minutes earlier, stood up and paid the cashier, then left.
...
Cathy couldn't really help her. She made up her mind and bought all the shoes she had found. Cathy was right. She knew how to spend above the norm. She smiled while carrying the piles of bags and went home.
...
Here I offered a quick short piece of story I made up 5 minutes ago. I trust you enjoyed it. Have a blessed day...
...
Nelson the Author

I Create

Dawn started to show its eye through the slit in the curtain. It was six thirty in the morning and Joel lay awake thinking about the day's chores, the meetings that lay ahead, and about any possible items on the agenda that would resolve into a headache. Joel was the Chief Financial Officer of the company and a very firm man when it came to balance sheets, budgets and money related to this company.
...
He forced himself out of bed five minutes later. It was time for a shower and a shave, then some breakfast, before hitting the road to the office. Three meetings and two budgets to review on this particular day. He was going to be home late once again; something that had become a part of his existence, his lifestyle for now. He did have other plans for his future. It would only take time.
...
And there I just made up a small two paragraph piece of a "story" and created a character in a few seconds. Are you gifted in writing stories, maybe non-fiction books or fiction stories/novels? I assist with proofreading and I create eBook covers as well.

A Review

Go and visit the blog, Pulp Den, belonging to international author Tom Johnson and see what he had to say about my latest book [eBook], The Good News, which I published two weeks ago. More Shorts

It struck midnight and I was still awake. This was dreadful! How was I going to get myself to sleep? I thought for a moment. Maybe a few strong drinks would do the trick. Maybe somewhere there was a liquor store still open. Then I started laughing. It was late night. Where would I find a liquor store open at this hour?
...
I turned over on to my left side and started counting sheep in my mind. At least something would happen soon. I would either be falling asleep or I would get up out of pure frustration and go sit on the balcony with a coffee and a smoke. Who knows, time would tell...
...
And here is another of my quick 5 minute ideas of a quick portion of a "story". You never know what will come of that in the future. Enjoy your day and weekend ahead... Be blessed!

Another Creative Short

He stared down the barrel of the .357 which was pointed directly between his eyes. At this moment in time his life started to fleet through his mind, the good and the bad, but mostly about his wife and children.
...
He knew he was seconds away from breathing his last breath and he just closed his eyes and waited for that bang. Seconds later there was a loud double bang. He didn't feel any pain; nothing. That was weird? He opened his eyes and heard a soft thud as he's would-be killer fell to the ground dead. He was alive!
 ...
He turned his head and there was his partner, smiling and happy that he had made it on time. They were detectives from the same precinct and they would see another day together again...
...
Another short 3 paragraph "story" I just made up. How great is your writing skills? Keep your mind open and allow your thoughts to run wild and let it just come out. Maybe you will have your next novel lined up quicker than you think. Enjoy!

Creative Short

Hops? What hops? It truly remains a mystery that you speak of such things. Disaster strikes if you touch it, body damage if you drink it, death if you over do it. Hops? Oh, I thought you were speaking about alcohol. Truly my unknown reasoning. That's me every day, a walking sleeper not really looking at my day and surroundings.
...
You just decided to call me that? You are a sorrow for the heart. You are a death-knell in my life. What more can I say? Just leave me alone. I enjoy life as a soloist and nothing else matters. Are you still blaming me? Look at all the fingers pointing back at you. You selfish idiot, you thinker of death words. You are terrible.
...
I gaze at life in form and structure. I look into realms of each day. I seek the goodness of every moment and swallow it up with joy unto my heart, soul and mind. My body yearns for more and more...
...
Here I once again wrote a quick little creative 3 paragraph "story" that could be anything. Begins of writing start this way. Can you think of a better way? Enjoy!

The Good News - another book

This book was published weeks ago and received a 5 star rating within days, just the beginning...

Here is an excerpt...

Introduction

As a new born again Christian one should live with a new peace and joy in your life. It is something we receive when we start this new journey of discovery, knowing we are saved and we have Someone who is walking with us. His name is Jesus Christ, our new found Lord and Saviour God. Yet, as we go along this new journey of Christiandom, we start to grow wary of this new birth, and we start asking questions as well. What you start to experience is different to what you expected. This is the devil who is playing tricks with your mind and heart.

Why does this happen? He is not happy that you chose to walk with Jesus Christ into your future. You chose a loving and saving God above the one called Satan. You may be a few weeks, months, even years into this journey, but you start to feel that nothing seems to have changed; rather everything feels the same to you. You start to question this faith you now believe in, this God you are serving, praising and worshipping. You start to fail in believing and understanding, and to grasping the real meaning of the Good News about Jesus Christ. Your mind starts to play havoc with you, and your heart starts to close its doors towards this all.

That’s why I wrote this book. I want you to understand and discover what it means to be assured of your salvation, to be saved without doubting. This book will show you that you are on a changing path; that life is not about the world and the things around you. Rather it is about God’s promises about you. I will show you that becoming a Christian, a born again believer, is and will always be a growing process. Therefore, sit back, relax and pray, then get ready for this book and what it has for you. Believing God’s Word, the Bible Scriptures, and what it is telling you, is what must remain glued to your mind and heart. Therefore, let’s begin in the discovery about the truth of your salvation…

Chapter 1 – Before The Good News

The day we offer ourselves and our lives to this saving God, Jesus Christ, a new life begins. It is something incredible, something fresh - something that makes us happy inside and outside. For many this brings confusion and, at times, leads to false understanding. It starts to make us think and doubt whether we have done the right thing, whether we are truly saved. It could be a myth! Our minds roam around desperately seeking to understand whether this is true or just some new religion. This leads us to ignorance, once again away from the truth and Jesus Christ. Is this you right now? Then let’s begin at the beginning.

And that's it... Purchase it here... Reviewers, please contact me at nelson.canha@gmail.com and I'll email you the book and cover...

An excerpt starting ...

Chapter 1

He had the lion in his sight. He held tight onto the rifle and aimed, viewing through the scope at the king of the jungle, a beast which could kill a human in minutes. Jonathan felt the sweat run down his cheek. It was hot and humid. The rest of the group of hunters stood a small distance behind him, waiting for the shot. They did not move. They did not want the lion to sense danger or see them. Jonathan took a deep breath and steadied his rifle, pressing his finger slightly tighter on the trigger. The shot was loud and within seconds the great beast fell to the ground. It uttered a soft growl and now lay dead between the bushes. Everyone cheered and walked closer to where Jonathan had been lying down.

Jonathan was beaming. This was his trophy. They had been tracking this king of the jungle for
three days. Tired and dusty, they had found it. Tony was the first to reach Jonathan. He spoke out loud and said, “Great shot man, and what a trophy. That’s a monster of an animal.” Jonathan was still beaming from ear to ear; he was proud of his trophy he had just gained. “Yes, it is a great one. I thought I was going to miss the shot, sweating too much, but it was ok.” The rest of the group joined them and congratulated Jonathan on a fine kill. Everyone was tired. Some had shot some animals during the length of the day. Their cruisers were loaded with wild animals. Two kudus, four eland, and now a lion. They still had another five days of hunting left before they went home. The group was seven men strong, including Jonathan.

Jonathan was a professional hunter and arranged hunting expeditions for groups of men at various venues across South Africa and Namibia. Hunting was his work. It paid well. It was time to go back to base camp. It would take them a while to reach it. The bush and jungle was quite dense in this area, but everyone had enjoyed the trip so far. “Gents, I trust you have enjoyed the first days of our outing. There are still five days left. Tonight we will decide where to next, and what you wish to hunt.” They all thanked him for these three days and everyone trundled back to the two cruisers parked fifty meters from them. Fred was the eldest amongst them. William was the youngest, Fred’s son. The ages ranged from twenty-two to fifty-six years of age. A great group Jonathan was thinking. If all the groups were like these guys. It was time to head back. They loaded the lion into a trailer and headed back to base camp.

and more...

Chapter 4

Jonathan got out of bed at eight-thirty the morning. To him it felt like a blue Monday. He would connect up with the hunting organization he was a member of. Most of his expeditions came through them, members of the organization. He did marketing through a website as well. That brought him about thirty percent of his business. He had a shower and left.

William had asked him if he could stay in contact with him. Jonathan did not mind at all. What a lively young man he was. Jonathan found it strange that William was not scared or even afraid of speaking about God in the way he did. Even criticism did not bother him. He would hear from him again, that he was sure of. William had sent him a sms, stating that he was praying for him. Jonathan did not bother at all. It made no difference to him. He did not ever believe in any god, never mind the God that William spoke about.

By ten o’clock Jonathan was done and left for his destination, the Hunter’s Association of South Africa. It was going to be a great day. He was hoping for a new group of hunters before the season closed. There were five weeks left. On arrival, he walked into the building and approached the reception area.

My Second Book - an excerpt

Here is a portion of the book [eBook], parts from Chapter 1... Living In Victory...

The following Greek terms are rendered prayer:

Deesis – prayer for particular benefits. Euche – which occurs once in the New Testament in the sense of a prayer [James 5:15]. These are some of many such studies of the Greek and Hebrew terms for prayer throughout the bible. I only touched on the subject so that you can understand how prayer was used and for what purpose. Prayer is something which we cannot really fathom, something which is beyond our understanding. My own definition of prayer is “building an ongoing bond or relationship with God.” The more we pray, the more we get to know who God is and we discover the power behind prayer. Prayer is a language which takes us into the Holy of Holies, into the presence of God. In this manner we grow closer to God and we remain linked to Him forever. Prayer also offers us wisdom and knowledge. This happens when we allow a time to listen to Him talking to us, directly or through the Word.

Let me offer you some background “history” about
prayer. Prayer has been, from the beginning, the principal means by which men, created in the image of God, have given expression of their attitude toward Him; and from the earliest times, ever since in the days of Enoch when “men began calling upon the name of the Lord” [Genesis 4:26], it has formed an integral part of the public worship of God.

And more ...

Chapter 2

How To Pray

We have learned what prayer is, but do we really

know how to pray. When we just pray with words which are babbled out of our mouths, are these prayers heard by God? How should we pray? I say we should pray in spirit and truth. This means that we pray in such a manner which makes God’s heart open up to us, which pleases Him and makes Him smile upon us - His blessings start to flow in our lives. Prayer has power in it when it is “heard” by God. He does not listen to prayers which are just a jumble of words spoken from our mouths, without meaning and sincerity, or any truth to them.

Let me offer you an example using a general

worldly way to explain the “how to pray and not to pray.” You have been working for a company for six months and you make a mistake with the job you are busy performing. Your direct supervisor or manager approaches you and asks you to explain what went wrong. He wants to know what you did and how you did it, and why. You start speaking and a bunch of jumble flows from your mouth. You speak with uncertainty, using words which make no sense. What will his or her reaction be? He or she will tell you very bluntly that you are lying. Why? Because you are answering them in a foolish way. You are not speaking in a manner which offers them any certainty of truth. You are not speaking clearly; from your heart. You are speaking jargon and they pick this up quickly.
