Dream big and make your story count. Great characters with a great scenario and great theme go hand in hand, What you write makes the story come alive, getting people to feel like they are there.
I write mostly non fiction Christian teachings and so far one fiction story, Christian based [bordering on the worldly style], but worth the journey.
I'm now busy with a daily devotional, another fiction story [Christian based again], and started a third book in a new genre; crime and suspense [detective story type], and not Christian based at all, but still with no foul language or explicit sex "scenes" and such stuff. Just a plain find the criminal and investigation type scenario. These will all hit the eBook "shelves" in due course. Watch this space as I'll be placing some small blurbs about each one soon.
And what are you busy with right now? Let's hear more...
Enjoy!

Review No.2 - Revenge Fires Back
Review No.2
Revenge Fires Back… by JR Thompson
This is a story written by a Christian author, JR Thompson, and starts in the year 1994. A family camping out and in the midst of a wild thunder storm. Derrick, a young man is a character of note. He thinks everything is going wrong, a pessimist. First we have the parents, Roxanne and Trevor, then the two brothers, Derrick, Brady and Dalton, a friend. It’s a story based around this family. But Derrick was more of a mommy’s boy.

He thinks everything is going wrong, a pessimist. First we have the parents, Roxanne and Trevor, then the two brothers, Derrick, Brady and Dalton, a friend. It’s a story based around this family. But Derrick was more of a mommy’s boy.
Trevor, the father, wanted the Clark family to live as one force, to show others their values and where they were heading. Derrick was always the scapegoat, being the younger of two boys. The story revolves around the Clark family and the status the want the world to see; who they are. But was something hiding behind their lives, maybe wearing masks for the world to see. Were they whom they thought they were? Not an easy story to follow though. One must understand each plot and event and how it revolves around the Clark family members. Still a great read and a good story line. The Clark’s reputation was more important, and each individual had thoughts of how life should be. Not all went their way in life. Each member of the Clark family was tested to the limit; their integrity, their own self and their attitudes. It started at the camp and moved on back home.
Could the Clarks stay intact as a family? I’ll rate this book 5 stars for creativity and a story worth following. Maybe we can learn something from the Clarks. Would the Clarks remain intact as a family? Only time would tell, even back at home life continued, a journey of self-discovery for each one. Enjoy this book but understand the story line and each plot and what it does to each person involved. Would the various trials break the Clarks?
They have drifted away from God, but could God help them rediscover themselves through Him? Other characters were thrown into the mix just to make it interesting. Then the plot thickens. The boys are taken away from their parents by the Child Protective Services and land up in a foster home, and that goes all wrong. Trevor and Roxanne are accused of abuse of their boys. Would God intervene as Roxanne and Trevor start to “seek” Him? Was it enough? The plot thickens. What has happened to the Clark family? Not an easy story to follow but as one reads chapter by chapter, the main plot becomes evident. Go and read it. Enjoy!

Review No.1 - The Man In The Black Fedora
Review No.1
The Man in the Black Fedora… by Tom Johnson
Reading this short story of crime and a crime fighter of note, the man in the black fedora was also a master of disguise. The story is for those fans who love suspense, crime and heroes who clean the streets of hoodlums, drug lords and anyone who is living outside the law. It is a great read with great characters, and it draws you in so that you don’t want to “put the book down” at all. I rate this book a 5 star for excellence and for the great story line which one follows. Here is a sample of the disguised character known as the man in the black fedora. He is disguised as an old Chinese man but evidently one can see he is already chasing no good-for-nothing men who disobey the law. Here is an excerpt…
“Entering the men’s room he smiled softly, as he noticed it was empty. In fact, this was the reason he was observing the dining room so closely. He hadn’t seen anyone coming back here for some time. Perhaps it was too early for the liquor to take effect.
A physical transformation suddenly took place, as the old gentleman straightened his bent back and walked quickly on steady feet into the interior. His glance swiftly took in the large room, alighting on a back window. He moved at once to the window while his hands worked swiftly with the cane, twisting the top easily.”
A man that reminds me of hidden objects and items used to fight crime with, in this case a cane. Jae, the hero in the black fedora was chasing after an evil drug lord Merrenneli, and one knows what happens with evil against good – they lose! A great read definitely for those who love crime suspense and heroes who lurk the city jungles fighting off crime, and at the same time a woman’s man; and with this enter the character of Kay, someone at the centre of it all. Who doesn’t love to read and sit at the couch’s edge following every step that Jae and his sidekick Rocky do to stop crime bosses from “owning” the city? Well done! Truly a remarkable read. A great book based on a story from the seventies.

The First Chapter Is Crucial - The Prologue
1] The beginning of your prologue :: A prologue is an episode that pertains to your story but doesn't include the main character (or includes the character well before the story begins). It might not be the 1st chapter actually, but it can be a legitimate opening; if it works though. It could someone who finds a dead body while strolling through the park. This discovery leads to a crime story. The prologue is what makes people stay on the pages for the rest of the book.
...
2] The hero beginning :: With the hero or detective involved right from the word go can set the rest of the book. This becomes very crucial in preparing and writing the prologue. This is usually my style of beginning. If the books are non fiction, that is different in some ways. The prologue can offer the intro to whatever you are writing about.
...
3] Bringing the story to life - Unlike a movie where the director can convey through visuals, speech and sound, while writing a detective novel the writer must depend on his writing capability to express the scene, feelings, pain, happiness, suspense or anger. The writer cannot show these expressions but has to describe them in a manner that the reader feels he can see them and not miss the visual impact of a cinema. For a non fiction book it could be the topic you are writing about, getting in directly from the word go and get into that topic. The prologue becomes the magnet to keep readers or push them away.

That's it for now. Enjoy this short article about the first chapter/pages of your novel writing. Be blessed. Nelson...

Are You Qualified?
What qualifies you to become an author?
This question has twisted and turned inside many peoples' minds, and mine as well, before I started writing and now have 5 published eBooks. Firstly, in my own belief, it must be a desire within; discovering a talent well hidden after many years. Secondly, it must be seen as a gift from God, a talent to be used usefully. Thirdly, it must be something that you can write about, something within you that has kindled a fire of some story, maybe an article, or content that attracts.
How did I know I was qualified. After I wrote my first book, then reading it to check for grammar, spelling mistakes, etc., I discovered that I was drawn into the teaching I wrote. It was meant for me firstly before anyone else read it. Later as I wrote my other books I realised it became easier, therefore a talent and gift. Now I know I'm qualified as I write, read, proofread, and self-publish my eBooks. And now I have one that was reviewed and 5 stars rated on it. I'm a 5 star rated author!
Are you qualified for something, maybe a hobby that will go to the next level, maybe some talent or gift from God that has been hidden for all these years? Then take that bold step and go for it!
If you need assistance in anyway, feel free to contact me at nelson.canha@gmail.com ... I may be able to help you... Be blessed!
