Determine Your Genre

Hi again, one and all,

How does one determine the genre of a book? Books/eBooks are written as fiction or non-fiction, but what about the genre? Here is a guide for the genre you are writing, and where it fits into the picture.
I trust this will help you get it right and see where you fit in. Enjoy your future plans. Be blessed!

Voice Tones - Writing Tip

Greetings all authors/writers/readers,

Firstly, an apology. My business and other personal commitments have kept me busy, therefore it has been some time that I haven't posted here. But here we are again...

Tones and Voices When Writing -

Drawling - someone speaking in a lazy way, speaking slowly.
Dulcet - sweet and soothing tone of voice
Egotistical - someone who is selfish, self-absorbed and boastful
Evasive - who is unclear, ambiguous, very cryptic
Forceful - who is powerful, energetic, and confident
Fretful - who is irritated and/or distressed
Grating - very unpleasant and harsh
Gullible - who is naïve, innocent and usually ignorant

That's it for today folks! Enjoy your writing.

Hi fellow writers/authors, readers,

And here are two of my upcoming books [eBooks] that will be published and launched soon. These are the new tweaked and final covers for these books. The New You [Christian 365 day devotional - cover redesigned 2 times] and 'Til Death Do Us Part [my first go at crime/suspense/detective genre - John Casswold is an ex-detective from the SAPS in South Africa now turned PI, and this will become a series of books with each being another investigation/client, etc.] This is book 1 e-Cover... final product after redesigning it 4 times... And how do you say?

Writing Tips - Part 3

Greetings fellow writers, authors and readers,

Once again I'm aiming this post, the final one about this topic, to all writers/authors alike. I trust these posts were worth the write and they fill you with a new hope in your writing journeys. Here are the final tips that helps you along the journey of writing.

Writing Tips - Part 3

Go For A Walk - there are times when we sit down to write and get so busy that time flies by. Then it happens! You arrive at a dead end and don't know what to pen next. Go and enjoy nature somewhere, take that break and chill. Go for a walk around your neighbourhood [if it is safe to do so though], and just let your mind relax and clear it from all the knots in it. Maybe get inspired afresh during this break, then get back to your manuscript once more. It does help!

Look At Harsh Critiques - use all this feedback, whether good or bad, sometimes just feeling like it hurts you more, and do something about your writing, maybe your cover design. I had plenty of crits who lifted me up and many that broke me down badly after my latest cover design of a book being published soon. I used all this feedback. But don't let this worry you at all. Remain positive, no matter what comes your way. I did!

It Will Never Be Perfect - and finally on this topic of tips, you will never be perfect in everything, even if you try. Someone told me that they redesigned a cover of their one book to see if it improved sales or more crit. The gent told me it made no difference in sales and no one mentioned a word about the cover. I know of books with some lousy covers that went viral and have made huge amounts of sales. Never strive for perfection. Don't strive for fame or greatness either. It never helps but slows you down. Just write. Finally, NEVER GIVE UP. Keep your mind and pen on that grinding wheel and keep moving forward.

That's it folks. I trust these posts on writing tips have been inspiring for you. Use them as they do help keep you motivated and ready for more writing. Do enjoy every moment. God bless.

Book Review - The Cleaner

Book Review...

The Cleaner by Mark Dawson

John Milton is the man who does what no one else can do; he eliminates people for the government. His skill? Murder in the first degree – The Cleaner. I took time reading this book as it is my first attempt in reviewing such a suspense filled book. I did feel that it dragged on and on, especially about Elijah and his mother Sharon. I did not find much of a twist to it. Only one thing came to mind. John wanted out from this secret agency. He had enough of killing and blood was on his hands; after one hundred and thirty six ‘cases’ resolved.

The book was well written, filled with plenty of weird characters, and names that only Mark could come up with. I was glued to the book [when time allowed that is], but I felt the lack of a real plot in the storyline. I rate this book at 3.5 stars. Mark is an international best seller and an up and coming writer who we’ll be hearing from much more into the future. Still a good read if you are into suspense and some mayhem. It did get slightly boring after a while as the story became lost along the way. As I review this book, Mark has published dozens more, and his writing has improved impeccably. He is now recognized as a best seller author. This book was ‘in the beginning’ as we all start there.

PS - My next review will be ...

A Broken Shell Of A Man by Elizabeth O'Neill

Until the next time, enjoy!

Writing Tips - Part 2

Greetings fellow writers, publishers, indies and more,

Don't get influenced by others what you write. Write from your heart and deal with editing, proofreading, and such things later.

Writing Tips - Part 2

Get Inspired - whatever inspires you, hold this close to your thoughts and mind. See what fires up inside of you and work with these.

Keep A Journal - by keeping a journal of your storyline and your characters, the book will flow easier. Every time you return to your writing, the journal will keep you on track. Also use the journal to write something every day. This will keep your mind awake and new ideas can be penned into the journal for later use, maybe another future book.

Never Mind Perfection - you don't need to get it right all at once. Just get it out then resolve the "right" later. By just writing your mind and heart get glued into the book and it starts to flow as you just write. Never mind right, just get it out!

That's it for today folks. I trust these posts will be a blessing to you, especially novices who are just starting a new career in writing. This is a hobby to me as I still run a business fulltime, but I do enjoy it tremendously. Have fun writing! Until the next post...

Christmas Greetings

To one & All, May this time be one enjoyed with family/friends. Enjoy a time of sharing & reflect on 2018, and remember to thank G...
